Sorry your Drop Rate Formulas are Whack

Example of a typical drop rate formula in the Wiki and why it is WRONG!

 <wikidot:authorName>MRBlueSkies</wikidot:authorName> <wikidot:authorUserId>298539</wikidot:authorUserId>

This has been constantly bugging me. Every time the Wiki discusses monsters or quests that drop MULTIPLE items they use these WHACK formulas to determine the OVERALL drop rate. It's nice fancy looking math and makes it look official but look, it is NOT rocket science (the drop rates on multiple items).

Here's an example from Coyote:
11 Sapphire Ring after about 220 kills (5%)
On FB the drop rate is 43%. What is the value on MySpace?
In case anyone is wondering why the values above (40% and 5%) doesn't add up to 43%, it's because 43% is the value that something will drop at all. It incorporates a Straw only drop (95%*40%=38%), a Sapphire Ring only drop (60%*5%=3%) but also a Straw+Sapphire Ring drop (40%*5%=2%). Hence the value that nothing will drop at all is 60%*95%=57%, thus 43% is the chance that anything will drop at all.

Ridiculous. If I fight the Coyote 100 times and I get a 40 percent drop rate on straw that's 40 straws! If I get a 5 percent drop rate on Rings that's 5 Rings!

The TOTAL amount of items that dropped in that 100 battles is 45! That's 45 percent DROP RATE babe! No IFS, ANDS OR BUTS!

Incidentally, I've fought the Coyote ONE THOUSAND times! I was able to sustain a 44 percent drop rate on straw and a 5 percent drop rate on rings!

The game says 43 percent drop rate on STRAW and guess what, 44 percent is as close as it gets!

Where you get the 40 percent drop rate on straw is probably because you don't know how to fight the monsters (it matters in case you don't know)

In the game, each action has a unique ID number. Can we add these ID numbers to the wiki? These are useful for anyone making scripts to interface with the game.

For example:

538 is Goblin @ Throncrest (on quests screen, to begin battle)
523 is Vikram @ Chandabrook Bridge (on quests screen, to begin battle)
1494 is Vikram @ Kalamar (on quests screen, to begin battle)
776 is Dragon Flesh (to use during any battle)
1321 is Dragon Tear (to use during any battle)
373 is Power Up spell (to use during any battle)
722 is Head West @ Lindellin Forest 3 (to go to LF4 from LF3)
1035 is Fish (Sinking Lure) @ Across Grandeur Lake (to fish)
1036 is Fish (Spinning Lure) @ Across Grandeur Lake (to fish)

No Sgt Renald (does he appear later, if so please show this)
'Into the Desert' requires Demoneater, not Forest Dragon as stated on page.

Hi. Many thanks for this great Wiki. It's very helpful and informative.
I thought I'd mention the above. It's the only thing that I've noticed. I was confused about Chocolate but have just read the bit about Valentine's Weekend, which explains it all!

I'm currently not sure what I need to do but guess that I have to go back and keep defeating the dragon (just past Tempest Druids) to get the Demoneater, despite what the page above says.
Or perhaps I need the Demoneater the first time and Forest Dragon at a later stage. The wiki is great but it's no walkthrough. Just as well probably.

Many thanks for your excellent work
dave

I got more drops after killed the Peak Dragon in Ward Dungeon 6 than what information on wiki mentions. See Screenshot.

http://i44.tinypic.com/16lighu.jpg

Also when I attacked Crested Dragon, I got a "Hope" weapon.

http://i41.tinypic.com/24v7b6u.jpg

Attacking Apocalypse Dragon isn't a fun thing, but at least I defeated it after used 100+ Dragon Fleshes and 100+ Dumplins, I got a Fire Cloak drop. Gadget Advisor got the Dragonsceptre after many tries here, but the chance I know is more rare - like Mana. The drop rate written on the page just tell you the chance that you will get a weapon or/and armor (multiple drops). It is definitely much more powerful than Kraken and I don't know why. Economically, I will choose to attack Kraken since the drop rate for Eclipse is 100% there.

Don't try to challenge until your health is 1,100+ and energy is 500+. Mine is 975, 480 respectively and it's way too costly.

http://i44.tinypic.com/sg3k44.jpg

Here's my assume, but I'm not sure, the three ward dungeon 6 dragons that are immune to oblivion will rarely drop "Harmony, Haste, Hatred, Havok, Hope and Cloaks" by chance. I know someone who has gotten Haste after defeating the Peak Dragon.

Someone please check the drop rates for the 3 dragons. It might be different on Facebook and on Myspace.

I just got 4 dragon fleshes from the Isabelle drop at Oakwood. The wiki page says you get 1-3 (possibly more). How do we update that?

I realize there is a path going north from Lindellin, there's currently no way to unlock that, I think the Hammerfall creator may be working on that.

I have a few wishes that the game developer can adds in.

Strong monster spells such as "Darkness, Magma Burst, Annihilation" should be available to the Guilds but on the "earn one and use one mode" like Lava Crossed, Path Lit or Door Opened in Falhill Dungeon. In this case, guilds cann't over-use them since each earning quest will have 40% chance success only and take long time to build up, but would be useful during certain crucial boss fights.

I know Yellow Fairy Charm - health 5x is there but not available to acquire - the game needs more stat items for players to earn, don't know what the name should be for stamina 5x or energy 5x. Players seem to stop leveling or much slower due to inactiveness when they reach closer to level 300 and total game players seem to drop from time to time.

More heal items - Dragon flesh only raise back 500+ health and black elixir only raise back 250+ energy, when I reached level 205, I have 810 max health, 468 max stamina and 330 max energy. When the benefits are higher, the items should be really expensive and hard to get but at least possible for players to acquire them, so they can use them during crucial boss fights.

Stronger Defense Up and Power Up spells like at 200%, so they can be used for fighting monsters such as Apocalypse Dragon, again they can be programmed on the "earn one and use one mode".

Any thoughts?

As an example, I'm not sure what opens up the way to Sulindal. It would be nice if there was a back reference on one of the Sulindal sailing pages on what opens up the way.

Just a thought.

I'm not very tech savvy, so I've no idea if this can even be done but I think having an alphabetical jump to link at the top of the page could be more efficient than having to go page by page in search of a desired result.

Update to Location Layout

I'm thinking about defining a table structure for the location layout such that images will show up on the left, particularly quest images, while text will show up on the right. I'm not quite sure how it would be managed since I wouldn't want to add any additional variables - particularly when the number of quests for a location varies so much.

I'm thinking I'll define a table for the quest area and rely on editors to maintain that in the variable section (the part between the ==== lines) so you'd put some tag after a quest image, before a quest description, and after the quest description. Until every location page is updated that way some pages could end up looking quite funky.

So I'm thinking we'll add a "done" tag to the locations we've updated and I'll throw up a quick page that lists all locations without the "done" tag.

Thoughts? Complains? Agreement?
